About The Area

In New Zealand, a short 30 minute drive from Hamilton, you’ll find the rural settlement of Karāpiro positioned in the rural Waipa District and Waikato region of New Zealand’s North Island. For those who love rural areas and getting active, the area of Karāpiro ticks those boxes. As Rowing New Zealand’s base and premier venue, and six kilometres south east of Cambridge which homes Cycling New Zealand, these are two national bodies that prove the area is a home of champions.

Karāpiro and the surrounding areas welcome a number of water sports – yachting, powerboating, canoeing and water skiing as well as have several walking tracks and country roads to cycle along.

The home of Long Course Weekend New Zealand is close to some of New Zealand’s major international attractions like Hobbiton, Waitomo Caves, Hamilton Gardens and Tauranga. Yet with plenty of unique attractions, other events and dining options – and a friendly, relaxed town ambience you may not want to leave!

For more information on places to stay and where to eat in nearby Cambridge, you can find out more here www.cambridge.co.nz

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the closure of the dam, there will be NO vehicle access to the venue via the dam if coming from a southern direction. You will need to go via Cambridge, so allow an extra 20mins to get there
